In this week’s Hidden Wealth Review, I teach the three biggest retirement risks for Baby Boomers. I use the acronym “TIP” to teach this concept. TIP stands for:
- Taxes. Taxes hit Baby Boomers from many angles: income taxes, taxes on Social Security income, taxes on Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) and taxes in the form of higher Medicare Parts B and D premiums.
- Inflation. Income inflation erosion robs you of the buying power of your rightfully earned Social Security income and your pension. If you have a pension or annuity and there’s no option to increase the monthly payments, that fixed amount of money will buy less and less in the future.
- Protection from market losses. We have reports showing that the economy is booming with high Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the lowest unemployment rate in over 50 years. Nevertheless, the market is becoming more and more volatile with 608 point and 832 point single day drops in the Dow Jones. The reality is that, even if you remain calm, the market will drop when others panic. This causes steep market plunges, impacting your hard earned savings.
